Home Conditions

No two families are the same when it comes to the way they use and care for their furniture and it is important to consider the type of use your furniture will receive in your home. Busy homes with a heavy flow of children, guests, dogs, cats etc. covers, paintwork and lacquered surfaces will wear faster than in the homes of single people who are seldom there.

Furniture is not normally designed to withstand loads of over 120 kg (body weight). There is no standard, but if you are of above average stature, please seek advice from a member of the ILVA team.

All furniture is affected by sunlight and even the most colour-fast furniture can fade. All furniture, be it wood, fabric or leather, should therefore be protected from direct sunlight and the use of curtains or blinds is strongly recommended.

Many families will often eat and drink in front of the TV. Please be aware that spillages from food and drink are bad news for your furniture. Even small quantities of fat from popcorn, for example, can begin a process of deterioration.

Moths can be a problem as furnishing fabrics are no longer always moth-proofed. Please be aware that furniture that is not used for a while, or put into storage etc. may be attacked by moths. Some fabrics are available with moth-proofing and anti-moth preparations can be purchased. Moths do not attack 100% synthetic fabrics.

Please be aware of these factors and take care to clean and care your furniture in accordance with these guidelines.
