Manilla furniture is normally painted, stained or lacquered. It can be cleaned with a wrung out cloth (use demineralised water) or a vacuum cleaner. Maintenance is not really needed unless the furniture is kept in very dry rooms. Use special oil or wipe the furniture with a cloth wrung out in soapy water. Don’t forget the backs as they are often untreated.

If the furniture is not used during the winter it should be stored in dry, well-ventilated rooms. Treating with special oil, linseed oil or turpentine prevents the formation of mould and mildew whilst the furniture is in storage. Special oil can also be used for general maintenance and can often remove shoe polish spots, etc. Soapy water and oil treatment should not be combined.
