Mattresses
Mattresses require minimal care; this is true of all types. As with all upholstered furniture, some “settling” occurs in the material and this should be expected. Turning the mattress on a regular basis helps to reduce settling. The head and foot ends should be swapped and, if possible, the front and back. Some of the beds available have box mattresses which also have a loose top mattress. This top mattress should also be turned. Many of these top mattresses are not washable, please check for a washing label or consult ILVA.
If a fitted sheet is to be used over the mattress, the top mattress should lie on top of the fitted sheet. The top mattress is covered with the normal bed sheet. If the top mattress lies directly on top of the box mattress, with the fitted sheet over both, this can cause considerable wear and tear.
Mattresses should be vacuumed regularly and for the removal of light soiling use demineralised water and or a light soap solution. If further cleaning advice is required please contact a member of the ILVA team.
It is important for the mattress to be well aired on a regular basis to allow any moisture to escape.
Many mattresses are put onto adjustable bases which can be raised or lowered manually or electrically. The mattress should be designed for this purpose. When mattresses are to be raised independently of each other in double beds, there should be a little space between them. There will always be a small gap between the mattresses. You should be aware that the corners of some bases should not be sat on when raised. For further information please consult a member of the ILVA team.
Futon Mattresses
Futon mattresses are available with a removable or fitted cover. Even though there is a zip on the mattress, this does not mean that the cover is removable.
Futon mattresses cannot be washed, but it is a good idea to “beat” them, shake them and roll them up approximately. once a month. A damp cloth should be used for spot cleaning. Washable removable covers may be purchased separately.
